Missoula Children's Theatre

Last week Sly was in a production of "Beauty Lou and the Country Beast" directed by a traveling team from the Missoula Children's Theatre. If you ever have the chance to have your kids participate with MCT, you MUST do it! It's for school age kids (age 5 through 12th grade). Auditions are held on a Monday morning, rehearsals begin Monday afternoon, and the kids rehearse morning and afternoon for the rest of the week. Then on Saturday they have a dress rehearsal in the morning followed by two performaces that afternoon. It is a very intense week, but extremely rewarding.
Sly wasn't too keen on the whole idea, but I told him he was going to audition anyway. He went without too much fussing, but was rather reserved and uptight during the auditions. The next morning, one of the directors told me he thought from auditions that Sly had a 'dark side' and would make a great Hamlet! I thought that was kind of cool! As it was, he was cast as one of the 'Country Folk' in the play, and had a great time. He told me later in the week that he was loving being in the play, but didn't want to do it 'for a living.' I assured him that was quite all right with me! At the end of the week I asked him (the boy who reluctantly audition because his mom MADE him go) if he wanted to try out for another play sometime and he enthusiastically answered, "Of COURSE!"
Also special to the week was Sly's 12th birthday. The last day of rehearsals we sent in a bunch of homemade cookies for the cast and crew to enjoy in honor of Sly's birthday. Everyone loved it! Happy Birthday, Sly! And you did a great job!!
