Last night we went to Moe's Southwest Grill for dinner. A few doors down from Moes is the apple store. Jman loves to go into the apple store and play on their computers, going online to youtube and watching videos because we have been severely limiting his access to youtube/etc at home lately.
After we finished eating, Jman punched into his ProLoQuo2Go one of his most common sayings: I want to use the computer. At first I didn't think about it, because he's ALWAYS saying he wants to use the computer. But then it occurred to me that what he meant was that he wanted to go down to the apple store (and yes, use the computer).
Habeeb and I were still finishing eating and so didn't get up right away. We actually had been planning on going down there after we ate anyway. While we were finishing up the last few bites, Jman was sort of wandering around the place. Then he did something he hadn't done before: He walked up to me and put the iPod right at my ear and played the message "I want to use the computer."
What's significant about that? Jman recognized that he needed to not only formulate the statement on the ProLoQuo2Go, but that he actually had to direct the statement towards ME. Just because he had the thought in his head and punched it into the ProLoQuo2Go did NOT mean that he had transferred that thought from his mind to my mind. In the past he has punched stuff into the ProLoQuo2Go but continued to keep his attention largely on the iPod instead of directing it to me. Habeeb and I have discussed how to help guide Jman in learning to direct his communications to a communication partner. Last night, he did it, by sticking that iPod inches from my ear and playing his message.
Of course, after we got home, he deleted P2G from his iPod for the THIRD time that day! Fortunately, I've figured out how to reinstall and update it very quickly now. Oh, and I already reinstalled it again this morning too. I think he's protesting the fact that we won't let him use the iPod for youtube! He's a hard headed little cuss!
