Lummi Sticks and Denim

One of Sly's assignments in studying New Zealand this week was to research rhythm sticks used by the Maori people. In SL's notes it says if you can't find much of anything on the Maori stick game, that you can substitute with a similar rhythm stick game native to the Lummi Indians of the Puget Sound Region. Well, sure enough, Stick Boy is now working to learn Lummi Sticks! For now, he's substituting chop sticks, but he may decide to make some lummi sticks out of dowels. We'll see.

Btw, Lummi Sticks could be a great RDI activity for anyone out there looking for such things. Make it as simple or as complex as you need for your kid. :) Even making the sticks could be a good project as well.

As for Jman, his big challenge for the day began when he discovered the old couch out in the garage and the family room devoid of seating (other than my camp chair). Way too much change for him. We had been furniture shopping this weekend, and I told him the new couch was coming today, but he was still pretty freaked for a while. He did eventually settle down though, and he had no problem at all when the new furniture arrived. So, what do ya think? Like it? It's very us--denim upholstery, and it's slip covered, no less--the boys can get it dirty, and we can throw it in the laundry! Woo-hoo! Btw, Sly and SB3 are looking out the window at the birdies at the bird feeders. :)

  1. Jman looks like he settled down by the time you took the picture. What a great bird watching spot!

  3. Hi Queen Mum
We got the furniture from Rooms To Go. We also got a matching accent chair and ottoman (the fabric is striped like the accent pillows instead of denim), but they're in the adjoining room. We've had them for a couple days now, and we are VERY happy with them. YEA! They replaced an old beloved hand-me-down couch we had.
